Dodge Charger goes after Ford in Police Vehicle Market

As a market segment all but dominated by Ford, Dodge has decided to take a step forward and challenge the Blue Oval in the police fleet segment. Chrysler will release a newly updated “Police Package” later this year to agencies across the country.

With the highly revered Crown Victoria being discontinued and being replaced by the Ford Taurus, departments are most likely weighing their options for their next generation police cruiser. The Dodge Charger offers an alternative to the Ford or the Chevy Caprice cruiser being released in 2011.

The Michigan State Patrol has received the new Charger for testing and release an annual rundown that acts as a Consumer Reports for law enforcement agencies across the country. The report released last November gave the Charger high marks for it’s best-in-class 360 horsepower HEMI V8 and “overall vehicle dynamics”.
